Oracle ORCL stock jumped late Wednesday after Bloomberg reported that the tech giant will expand its massive Stargate data center project with OpenAI. The news comes two days after Oracle disclosed that it had landed a cloud services deal it expects will be worth more than $30 billion annually starting in 2028, igniting a rally for Oracle shares.

Stargate — OpenAI’s project with partners including Oracle and SoftBank Group Corp. to invest $500 billion in AI infrastructure — was first announced in January at the White House. So far, Oracle has developed a massive data center in Abilene, Texas, for OpenAI alongside development partner Crusoe.

The director of data center engineering at Apple has joined generative AI giant OpenAI. Spas Lazarov spent the last ten years and ten months at Apple, with the company disclosing eight operational data centers across North America, Europe, and Asia in its latest environmental report.
