Toy maker Mattel has launched a new Barbie doll, designed by Anita Dongre, a first such collaboration with an Indian designer.

Anita Dongre and Barbie launched their first Diwali doll, featuring a Rajasthan-inspired outfit. The design blends traditional and contemporary styles, celebrating Indian culture and craftsmanship for the Festival of Lights.

Dongre joined the call on an autumn afternoon, days before the global launch. “I watched the Barbie movie,” she laughed, “It was so heartwarming – I thought it was a lovely film." The first conversation about the collaboration started almost eighteen months ago.
