The truck hauling an estimated 70,000 pounds of honeybee hives rolled over around 4 a.m. close to the Canadian border near Lynden, the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office said in social media posts.
The honey and beekeeping industry has estimated nearly 1.6 million of the U.S.'s 3 million honeybee colonies were lost over the winter. Research is ongoing about what has caused the die-offs.
