Massachusetts could get 3 to 6 inches of snow from weekend storm, then forecasters will be ‘closely watching’ possible coastal storm

Light snow near and south of the Hartford-Providence-Plymouth line should produce a coating of 1 to 2 inches of snow Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters expect that snow should leave during the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday.

A winter weather advisory is in effect in Massachusetts today as several inches of snow is expected to fall across the state, according to the National Weather Service's Boston office. Snow is already beginning in western Massachusetts as of 8 a.m. Thursday, and it will pick up in the eastern part of the state later this morning.

Storm Watch is in effect for all of western Massachusetts from 1 p.m. Saturday until 7 p.m. Sunday for accumulating snow and a wintry mix.

Snow totals varied across the state, with accumulations approaching as high as 2.5 inches along and north of Route 2, forecasters said.
