Dr. Hyman Engelberg, Marilyn Monroe’s personal physician, who prescribed her sleeping pills and declared her drug-overdose death a suicide, has died. He was 92.

Dr. Engelberg alerted the world more than four decades ago that the actress, who remains an international cult figure, had been found dead in her Brentwood, Calif., home.

Dr. Hyman Engelberg died in a nursing home of natural causes Monday, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

The police station reportedly received a call from Dr. Hyman Engelberg, who spoke to the desk and stated that Marilyn was dead.
