Unsecured creditors to collapsed shopping centre giant Intu collected their first payout earlier this year, receiving £103M from administrators in May and leaving £4.4B still to be paid.
His fortune soared, and in 2011 his firm, Peel Group, sold the Trafford Centre to Capital Shopping Centres - which has since become Intu Properties - for £1.6bn.
Intu branding on the shopping centre will disappear by the end of the year with a move back to the centre’s original Eldon Square name. A new logo, signage and website will be introduced.
And now, the really hard part starts. Lenders to the company now control Intu’s 22 assets, including eight of the 20 biggest shopping centres in the UK.
