Jack Kirby is rightly regarded as one of the greatest figures in American comic history. A gifted storyteller with a love of classic mythology, he redefined the art form as a writer and artist.

It and more Kirby art and artifacts can be seen in the exhibit “Jack Kirby: Heroes and Humanity,” which opened May 1, 2025 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

The curators’ hunt for art and artifacts to tell Kirby’s story had a few definite musts, Reed says. “We knew that we wanted an early piece of Captain America artwork,” he says.
