Before the Mughal emperor Akbar took over Lahore, the fort and the ancient city were what the Mubarak Shahi (1313–1316) had constructed after numerous destructions.

In 1567, Akbar attacked the fort at Chittor in Mewar. After a siege of four months the fortress fell. Akbar proclaimed it as “the victory of Islam over infidels”. The communal emperor had emerged.

The Lahore Fort’s rich Mughal history, dating back to the 16th century when Emperor Akbar first constructed it, forms the cornerstone of its importance.

Every time one visits the Lahore Fort, ... It seems that in the Akbar era, and most likely even earlier, deep rooms to shield the rulers from the heat was a large complex structure.
