The last time Reid Park Zoo was home to a male elephant was in 2022, when Mabu moved to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.

Now, the 12-year-old is making the move to Fresno Chaffee Zoo per the Malayan Tapir Species Survival Plan’s recommendation, officials said in an Aug. 17 blog post.

Woodland Park Zoo (WPZ) is preparing to say goodbye to its last remaining Malayan tapir, Ulan, at the end of August. Her last day for visitors will be Aug. 27.

Before Chaffee, most of his responsibilities were handled by the Fresno Zoological Society. Chaffee’s time as director brought with it nutritional, quarantine, and educational programs at the zoo.

Sally, the marine mammal, got a chance to briefly explore the world outside her pool when the zoo grounds were flooded by the heavy rains.
