The relentless heat wave baking the Bay Area and Northern California, originally expected to peak on Tuesday of this week, will last into the weekend, forecasters said Friday.

The Bay Area faces a severe heat wave, with high temperatures predicted by NWS Sacramento and cooling not expected until late next week.

The end of this early autumn San Francisco Bay Area heat wave keeps getting pushed back. When the scorching weather first arrived Monday, forecasts indicated temperatures would drop by the end of the week, but the latest forecast shows Saturday and Sunday will still be hot, especially across inland areas, with widespread temperatures in the 90s.

An excessive heat warning has been extended for much of the Bay Area through Sunday, as a late heat wave sizzles the region for the sixth day in a row.

A heat advisory for the San Francisco Peninsula coast and a Spare the Air alert have been extended through Sunday, the National Weather Service and Air Management District announced Saturday. Inland temperatures are expected to rise to about 93 degrees while coastal highs fall to the 70s and 80s,

The National Weather Service has extended the excessive heat warning for the third time for the Bay Area. The warning is now slated to end at 11 p.m. on Sunday. The NWS said weather conditions may be “dangerous.
