A new warning as we head into the weekend, that a “global attack” is now targeting Windows users in multiple countries around the world. The campaign is stupidly simple, but it hammers home the risk for the hundreds of millions of Windows 10 users heading for a world without security updates a year from now.

CISA has mandated Windows PCs be updated by October 7, which is three weeks from now. As ever, the formal mandate applies to federal employees, but many other public and private organizations follow CISA’s mandates, given its remit “to help every organization better manage vulnerabilities and keep pace with threat activity.”

On most of those platforms, Windows App is a replacement for the Microsoft Remote Desktop app, which was used for connecting to a copy of Windows running on a remote computer or server—for some users and IT organizations,

Microsoft has been testing the app for almost a year, but it's now (mostly) ready for prime time. The Android version is still in preview but has most of the same features. The Windows App can stream Windows and hosted apps from Microsoft's cloud services like Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop.
