Punxsutawney Phil isn't the only weather-predicting groundhog that enjoys a day of public spotlight. In Ohio, Buckeye Chuck has made his call.

Crowds gathered early Sunday morning to watch Ohio’s famous groundhog Buckeye Chuck make his 2025 weather prediction. Chuck didn’t see his shadow due to cloudy skies, so he predicted an early spring for Ohio. Chuck is touted as “Ohio’s Chief Prognosticating Groundhog since 1979.”

Groundhog Day celebrations were underway in Punxsutawney and Athens on Sunday morning. Students and locals submitted their predictions and despite people’s excitement toward the outcome or lack thereof,

It could soon be time to put away your winter garb because Buckeye Chuck, Ohio’s very own groundhog, did not see his shadow. The famed Marion resident made an appearance on Sunday morning at about 7:40a.

Staten Island Chuck, a groundhog at the Staten Island Zoo, did not see his shadow and predicted an early spring Sunday. Chuck's forecast contradicts Punxsutawney Phil, who predicted six more weeks of winter after seeing his shadow about an hour earlier at Gobbler's Knob in Pennsylvania.
