WASHINGTON - A man was found shot to death near Rock Creek Cemetery Saturday, according to police. Officers responded to the 5000 block of First Street, Northwest around 4:45 p.m. Saturday where they found a man in an area of the cemetery right behind an apartment building.

A man died after he was found with gunshot wounds in Rock Creek Cemetery in Northwest D.C. on Saturday afternoon, authorities say. Brandon Ward, of Northwest D.C., was the victim, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement Sunday.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said it has identified the man who was shot and killed at Rock Creek Cemetery on Saturday afternoon. Police said that on Nov. 9 at about 4:50 p.m., officers responded to Rock Creek Cemetery for the report of a shooting.

According to police, officers were called to the Rock Creek Cemetery for a reported shooting. When police got to the scene, they found the man dead immediately behind an apartment building in the 5000 block of First Street Northwest, in the area of the cemetery.

D.C. police said officers located a man in serious condition inside Rock Creek Cemetery, along 1st Street NW. He died at the scene.
