The sophomore quarterback started for the Colorado Buffaloes Friday and helped score a wild touchdown to trim the Houston Cougars' lead before halftime.

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders announced Ryan Staub will lead the team against the Houston Cougars after his Week 2 performance.

While the Colorado offense was struggling, Houston quarterback Conner Weigman was posting 222 yards on 15-of-24 passing with 83 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Deion Sanders is reportedly close to making his first significant change of the 2025 season by naming Ryan Staub as Colorado's starting quarterback for Friday's game against Houston over highly-touted recruit Julian Lewis.

Staub responded by leading a six-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 21-yard touchdown pass to Dekalon Taylor in just 36 seconds to give the Buffaloes a two-score advantage entering the break. Staub came back for Colorado's first drive in the third quarter and connected with wide receiver Sincere Brown for a 71-yard score.
