Kenyan President William Ruto has arrived in Haiti as the United Nations grapples with how to best support a peacekeeping mission of resource-strapped Kenyan and Jamaican forces.

The trip by President William Ruto of Kenya came against a bleak backdrop in Haiti, where gangs operate with impunity and the Kenyan peacekeepers remain largely out of sight.

Kenyan President William Ruto has landed in the Haitian capital to assess a Kenya-led security mission in the Caribbean nation, a day after a United Nations expert warned that Haiti faced deepening violence and insecurity.

President William Ruto of Kenya will visit Haiti on Saturday morning and will receive a formal diplomatic welcome, the Haitian government said on Friday.

State House said Ruto was in Haiti to assess the progress of the MSS mission, visit and commend the Kenyan contingent working alongside their Haitian counterparts and meet with the Transitional Presidential Council, led by Edgard LeBlanc, as well as members of the Haitian Cabinet.

Ruto made the announcement Saturday during a brief stopover in Haiti while on his way to this week’s high level meeting of world leaders at the United Nations. Ruto currently has 400 specialized police officers in Haiti as part of the first contingent of foreign security personnel involved in the U.

President William Ruto of Kenya is expected in Haiti for a brief visit on Saturday, September 21, morning. According to The Gazette and The Daily Item, Haitian government said Friday, September 20, that President Ruto of Kenya will receive a formal diplomatic welcome.
