On January 7, 2019, Waldschmidt was sworn into office to become the 59th Sheriff of Fond du Lac County. Sheriff Waldschmidt has served on numerous special teams and special assignments with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office currently employs: 45 Patrol Deputies 3 Lieutenants (Shift Commanders) 8 Sergeants Patrol deputy assignments vary in responsibility on a daily basis, with focuses in specialized teams, court security, civil process, field training, and many more.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau has a primary operation of investigating more laborious, complex and specialized crimes, that are not practical for patrol deputies to investigate.

The reports are stored electronically in a secure database and are available for purchase online at http://crashdocs.org. Typical requests include accident reports, incident reports, individual contact records, photographs, audiotapes, CD’s and DVD’s. Records can be picked up at the Sheriff’s Office or mailed to the requestor.

The Sheriff's Office Communications Center provides 911 service to all of Fond du Lac County. The dispatch center dispatches for 11 Police Departments, 11 First Responder groups, 6 ambulance services, and 18 fire departments.
