Nautical Traditions - Houston Yacht Club
Boat Christening – Each year on the day prior to Opening Day, HYC conducts a boat christening to welcome new boats into the club’s fleet. Boats to be christened are usually lined up at the guest dock, and the christening party (chaplain and officers) visits the boats in turn.

Houston Yacht Club offers an exciting program for cruisers, power and sail. And if you don’t have a boat, you can join many of the cruises at land destinations. We have cruises to many destinations in Galveston Bay as well as up and down the Gulf coast. Cruises typically include parties and shore-side activities.

Charter Fleet - Houston Yacht Club
The Club owns a fleet of watercraft available for charter by members and their guests. We have a type and size of boat for every interest and experience level, so there is one just right for you! These boats are available for charter Thursday-Monday year-round for a half or full-day basis.
Our Heritage - Houston Yacht Club
In 1897, after a summer filled with boating excursions, sailing parties, and two hotly contested regattas, a group of yachtsmen organized what is today, the oldest yacht club in Texas, the Houston Yacht Club (HYC).
Nautical Traditions Old - Houston Yacht Club
Origin of yacht clubs. In 1720 the Water Club of Cork (Ireland) was formed. It was actually a coast guard and cruising association. The club developed a formal protocol, including a dress code. In 1828 it become the Royal Cork Yacht Club. It is the oldest continually organized boating club.
Clubhouse History - Houston Yacht Club
The new building was completed July 4, 1927, just in time for the Club to host the first national regatta in Texas, the Mississippi Valley Speed Boat Association annual race. The three-story stucco structure has been described at various times as Spanish Mission, Spanish Colonial Revival and Spanish Mediterranean.
