The Graves Light is a lighthouse located on The Graves, the outermost island of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area, and 9 miles (14 km) offshore of downtown Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Graves Light, located about nine miles off the coast of Boston, has been a pinnacle of light for over a century, aiding in the safe passage of ships through Massachusetts Bay and Boston Harbor.

Standing at 113 feet tall, Graves Light is the tallest light in the harbor. On September 1, 1905, Keeper Elliott C. Hadley lit the brightest light north of Cape Cod for the first time.

Graves Lighthouse is not one of New England’s romantic towers that stirs dreams of lighthouse keeping. Instead it stands exposed and alone atop the bleak jutting rocks of Graves Ledges. Even its name conjures unpleasant visions.

The Graves are located in the outer northeast corner of the Boston Harbor at approximately 11 miles away from Boston. Rocky outcroppings surround the island, which are 15 feet above sea level at high tide.

Austere and weather-beaten, Graves Light might appear to the uninformed observer to be a more ancient structure than Boston Light, its neighbor in Boston's outer harbor. Surprisingly, it's actually one of Massachusetts' youngest lighthouses.

A huge first-order Fresnel lens, 12 feet high and 9 feet in diameter—the most powerful light in Massachusetts—was installed in the lantern, and the lighthouse went into operation on September 1, 1905.
