May 25, 2017 · Gentile Arena officially opened its doors on November 23, 1996, as the Loyola Men’s Basketball program christened the new arena with a win over Eastern Kentucky in front of a packed house of 5,200 fans.

The Joseph J. Gentile Arena, formerly known as the Joseph J. Gentile Center or "The Joe", is a 4,486-seat [1] multi-purpose arena on the campus of Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. The arena opened in 1996. It is the home of the Loyola Ramblers men's and women's basketball programs. Renovations at the facility began in the summer of 2011. [2]

Gentile Arena is most commonly utilized for athletic events, sports camps, galas/special events, large conferences, and high school and college graduation ceremonies. Loyola Conference Services works in conjunction with the Student Complex Department for all external venue rentals of Gentile Arena.

The Loyola Ramblers men's basketball team represents Loyola University Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. The Ramblers participate as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. [2] The Ramblers joined the Missouri Valley Conference in 2013, [3] and stayed until 2022.

As Phase II of Loyola's reimagine campaign, the renovations to Gentile Arena have resulted in more of a stadium atmosphere with more chairback seating added to enhance the fan experience. The current arena can seat ~5,000 for most home basketball and volleyball contests.
