Shirebrook is a town and civil parish in the Bolsover District of Derbyshire, England. [2] It had a population of 13,300 at the 2021 Census. [ 3 ] The town is on the B6407 road and close to the A632 road which runs between the towns of Mansfield , Worksop and Bolsover .

Shirebrook colliery was a colliery that received great investment over the years. In 1976 the Jubilee Drift was undertaken to link the surface to the coal of the Main Hard seam to get the coal out of the mine faster with less delays. This culminated in the colliery producing over 1.7 million tons in 1986-87. The colliery closed April in 1993.

In 1896 the Shirebrook Colliery Company began sinking 2 shafts, each 18 feet in diameter, at Shirebrook, under the direction of Arnold Lupton, a professor in mining. Who incidentally became a Member of Parliament for the Sleaford division of Lincolnshire a few years later.
