Woody Bay, on the rugged Exmoor Coast, certainly lives up to its name. The rocky cove is backed by steep, heavily wooded cliffs. The walk down to the beach is as much of a delight as the cove itself; the path zig-zags through the woods, passing some amusing signage on the way.

Woody Bay is a bay on the North Devon coast of England, 3 miles west of Lynton and 8 miles east of Combe Martin with a stony beach. It lies in the civil parish of Martinhoe at the edge of the Exmoor National Park and is a waypoint on the South West Coast Path.

Feb 15, 2024 · It’s a steep descent from the top of the small car park (see map for exact location), where you can either follow the road down, through the ancient oak trees until you reach the ocean and a platform above will show you a sneak preview the paradise of Woody Bay below.

North-facing Woody Bay lies on the North Devon coast approximately halfway between Heddon's Mouth and Lynmouth along the Exmoor Heritage Coast. The beach is breathtaking in more ways than one, not least because of the steep mile long walk from the car park but is well worthwhile once you get there.
