Feb 29, 2016 · I looked at the manual for the 1964-67 Piper "Cherokee C", which included the Cherokee 150 (same engine as a stock Cherokee 140), Cherokee 160 and Cherokee 180. All three are aerodynamically the same as a stock Cherokee 140, though gross weights vary from 2150 lb to 2400 lb.

Nov 3, 2013 · In looking around, it seems I'm able to get a bit more for the money with a Piper as opposed to a Cessna. One big consideration is how the aircraft will perform at Colorado altitudes. Will the 160hp PA28 perform in a similar manner to a 172N, or do they tend to perform better? How about a Cherokee 140 without the upgraded engine?

Trying to plan some cross countries and want to make sure I accurate account for climb fuel, and yes I'll be extra conservative.

Jun 25, 2008 · Forward CG is an issue with the Cherokee design. Two big people and full fuel doesn't work unless there is also some weight in the rear. Using actual front seat position instead of the standard mid- position can help a lot. Less fuel also helps. My 71 Cherokee came with documentation that included the weight and arm of all installed options.

Each of these birds fits a very different mission. The 140 is a 2-seat plane, or 2+2 kids. I've been subjected to the back seat of a 140, and had to be lifted out after a 90-minute flight.

Nov 4, 2015 · The 172 has a better wing for higher altitudes, as well. It is not just a power thing. My Cherokee didn't want to climb much above 10,000 feet. I did get it close to 12,000 once, but it took a while. I loved my Cherokee, but that is ultimately why I sold it.
