Many of California's landscapes have been shaped by glaciers and moraines are comon at higher elevations and in the Eastern Sierra. A moraine is basically a landform built by a glacier. As glaciers move, they act like slow bulldozers, pushing rocks, sand, and debris along with the ice. When the glacier melts back, it leaves those piles behind.

Did you know the glaciers in Denali National Park look different depending on what time of the year you visit? From around June - October the snow has melted and uncovered these striking striations called moraines. During the winter and spring the moraines are less visible and covered in snow. | K2 Aviation
